Bayou Bishops

Thirteen men began with a creed:
No whiskey. No women. No weakness.

These brothers of the swamp guarded settlements under Bayou Bishops law. Those who crossed their waters without permission answered to their form of mud justice.

Then their leader pulled a bruised and bleeding woman from their swamp waters. He brought her to his shack and saw to her healing. They learned flesh traders had returned to their bayou—and The Twelve answered with a death sentence.

Somewhere between hiding her and preparing for war, their leader became the first to find one woman worth breaking his celibacy vow for.

Then Bishop turned this romantic catastrophe into Brotherhood policy. He ordered his Twelve to get wives.

Some treated it like another mission. Find a woman. Marry her. Done. Some wanted to know how Bishop falling in love had become a Brotherhood-wide emergency. Some would’ve preferred another war.

But when it came to walking through fire, the Brotherhood moved as one--war, floods, blood feuds. Even marriage.

In the end, they were just women. How f**king complicated could it be.

I hid her at my shack to heal.
That should’ve been simple.
Feed her. Protect her. Keep watch until the men hunting her were dead.
